Protect your bike with SCI'CON's Aerocomfort plus

Posted 01 January 2012

Any cyclist who has invested in a decent bike and who cares about protecting it while travelling might want to take a look at Italian company SCI’CON who have most definitely come up the solution to bike transportation.

The family run business has been manufacturing transportation bicycle bags, saddlebags, biking gear and sports bags since 1980, so it knows a thing or two about delivering high quality products at affordable prices.

SCI’CON has a range of hard shell and soft shell bike transportation bags to suit every budget but we opted to road test the soft shell AeroComfort Plus which has become the choice of a growing number of Pro teams.

It did not take long to realise why teams like Liquigas-Cannodale, Astana, Leopard Trek, Saxo Bank-Sungard, Cofidis and Team Net App prefer this bag which makes it easy to pack and store a bike while still guaranteeing bike protection.

The bag combines the flexibility and lightness of a soft bag with the stability and safety of a hard case while still making it possible to fit it into the boot of your car. This can save a lot of trouble if you are renting a smaller car or using a taxi at your destination.

SCI’CON have developed the AeroComfort Plus bag around the bike’s geometry so that you do not have to go to the trouble of removing the handlebars. Packing the bike is as simple as removing the wheels and zipping them up in the double padded individual wheel compartments.

The bag comes with the company’s Antishock Bike Frame which is securely fixed to the interior base of the bag. The front wheel mount is easily slotted into this frame to complete a secure structure for protecting your bike frame and parts from impacts and vibrations.

We were impressed by the rigidity of the frame, which is similar to a mechanic’s stand, and by the overall design and manufacture of the bag. SCI’CON also supply two wheel skewers and a rear-mech guard which can be fitted to one skewer to provide added protection to your rear derailleur.

We were also comforted by the fact that the bag incorporates removable anti-shock pads in the corners that are  zipped up around the handlebars.

The bag is manufactured in Nylon 840 with high density foam inner padding. Adjustable holding straps provide additional security while the high quality double stitching and double slider zips also guarantee peace of mind and ease of use.

We awarded extra points for the zip-locked inner pocket which makes it possible to store a saddle bag, essential tools, spare tubulars, clincher tyres or tubes.

We also liked the fact that the bag is branded with a warning that it contains a bike and that it should be handled with care.

The AeroComfort Plus bag is easy to lift and carry and it also runs of four 40mm wheels which are durable enough to withstand a bump without causing the bag to topple over.

With a price tag of €449 this bag represents great value for money while providing all the protection you need to ensure that your bike is transported safely.

The AeroComfort Plus bag is available to buy by visiting the SCI’CON website:  http://www.e-sciconbags.com/
