Double header 'back on home turf' for An Post team

Posted 07 April 2010

The An Post team are back in Belgium this week after a good showing in yesterday’s Rund um Köln in Germany. Four of the team, Mark Cassidy (28th), Ronan McLaughlin (38th), Benny De Schrooder (56th) and Kim Borry (61st), were involved in a 60 rider bunch sprint at the finish.

Now back on home turf, the team will contest in tomorrow’s (Wed 7th) Scheldeprijs and the following day (Thurs 8th) they will take part in Grand Prix Pino Cerami. Irishmen Mark Cassidy and Ronan McLaughlin will take part in both races whilst Connor McConvey and Matt Brammeier will ride in one race each.

Team manager Kurt Bogaerts had this to say ahead of both races. “Yesterday the team preformed very well with four guys involved in the bunch sprint at the end. Both McConvey and Niko (Eeckhout) were sick with the flu last weekend which didn’t help our preparations for the race, so in the end I was very pleased with how we got on.”

“(David) O’Loughlin wasn’t with us last week but he also has the same flu like symptoms as the others. I had him down to race on Thursday but now he won’t be taking part. I will name his replacement tomorrow morning.”

“The next two races are both difficult, starting with tomorrow’s race which is on flat road for almost all of the way. I expect there to be another big bunch finish, provided it doesn’t rain.”
