Martin finishes Basque Tour in 15th

Posted 12 April 2010

Garmin Transitions  pro Dan Martin rounded off a solid performance in the Tour of the Basque Country moving up one place to 15th in the GC after the final stage in Orio.

He posted a time of 34 minutes and 04 seconds over the 22 kilometre individual time trial course finishing 1:31 behind American Chris Horner (Team Radioshack) whose stage win was also enough to see him to snatch overall victory from Alejandro Valverdre (Caisse d’Epargne).

Horner, who carried a slender 1 second deficit into the stage, put in a powerhouse performance to beat Valverde by eight seconds and to win the race overall by seven seconds.

Martin recovered well from a bruising day in the mountains and in conceding only 1:31 to Horner succeeded in improving his final standing after a week which will provide him with plenty of inspiration as he turns his attention to upcoming stage races.
