Martin climbs GC at Tour Mediterranean

Posted 10 February 2012

Dan Martin has climbed the GC at the Tour Mediterranean after placing 23th in the bunch finish on stage two where his Garmin-Barracuda teammate Michel Kreder celebrated victory.

The 136 kilometre stage from Salon de Provence to Martigues was rain soaked and resulted in a change of leader overall as Jonathan Tiernan-Locke (Endura Racing) slipped to second behind Yauheni Hutarovich (FDJ – Big Mat).

Hutarovich’s third place behind Guillaum Boivin (Spidertech Powever by C10) in Martigues was sufficient to put him into the race leader’s yellow jersey with the same time as Tiernan-Licke and Kreder.

Martin (Garmin-Barracuda) has moved from 104th up to 61st in the GC having preserved his ten seconds deficit overall.

The Irishman showed good form today and will aim to maintain his standing on the 127 kilometre stage three from La Seyene S/Mer to La Londe les Maures before having a crack at Sunday’s summit finish at Mount Faron.
