SCI'CON's slick aeronaut saddle bag a real winner

Posted 01 March 2012

Simplicity is not a simple thing to achieve but the Italian company SCI’CON has certainly cracked the code with its new Aeronaut saddle bag which is a must for any cyclist looking for a slick aerodynamic product to carry their spare tubes and tools.

The company’s marketing department told us that the Aeronaut was no ordinary saddlebag, that it rewrites the rules of the saddlebag market and that a new breed of saddlebag was born. Fair enough, we thought but let’s see if it stacks up.

The Aeronaut saddlebag consists of an fiberglass shell with an outer silicon skin which can be peeled on and off. The shell has plenty of room to secure the tyre levers which come with the product and your spare tube while leaving enough room for a multi-tool.

We switched the multi-tool for a C02 canister and succeeded in getting it into the shell without having to stretch the silicon skin to accommodate it. That’s about the limit to what it can store and an MTB tube does take up more room.

The silicon skin is designed to compress and stabalise the contents of the shell and comes in two colours – black for those who like to keep it simple and yellow neon for those who want to stand out.

SCI’CON have put a lot of thought and imagination into the design of this product. The silicon skin means that you don’t have to grapple with zips and it is flexible enough that it can be removed and reapplied while wearing a pair of full-length gloves.

The product is very user friendly and SCI’CON’s roller system makes it easy to fit the Aeronaut securely to your saddle rails. The clamp can be screwed firmly into place by hand in a matter of seconds while the bag clicks into place with one simple twist.

The saddlebag looks slick on any bike and the unique pod like shape and design is certainly eye-catching. SCI’CON focused its research on creating an aerodynamic product and there is nothing here that it going to drag or flap in the wind.

The saddlebag is made with a bi-injection technology using the most advanced plastic materials. The translation is that you don’t have to worry about getting it dirty. It is made of dirt-proof smooth surfaces and it is easy to wash.

The Aeronaut is priced at €27 but if you are quick you may still be able to pick up one of the 1,000 units that SCI’CON is making available for just €10 in exchange for providing the company with your views and criticisms after using it. Simply log on to for further details.
