Tom Boonen has won the Tour of Qatar for the fourth time thanks in no small way to his Omega Pharma-Quickstep teammate Matt Brammeier who protected his interests during a dramatic final stage in Doha Corniche.
Dan Martin has kicked off his 2012 season at the Tour of the Mediterranean finishing comfortably in the bunch on stage one which was cut short by bad weather.
Matt Brammeier had to give way to the fortunes of his Omega Pharma-Quickstep team on stage four of the Tour of Qatar after race leader Tom Boonen and three teammates managed to slip away in a late seventeen-man break.
Matt Brammeier and David McCann were both caught on the wrong side of a split in the peloton inside the closing kilometres of stage four of the Tour of Qatar which saw Mark Cavendish record his first win as world champion.
